Chest/Breastfeeding Policies

Chest/Breastfeeding

To address chest/breastfeeding disparities, a public health initiative to improve the continuity of care for breast/chestfeeding and human milk feeding has been established by CCHD. Intervention strategies include:

  • Establish and implement lactation friendly policies and practices in accordance with NYS Labor Law 206-c and federal accommodations to help parents meet their feeding goals.
  • Implement breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and lactation supports in community and public spaces.
  • Build and expand local breast/chestfeeding coalitions to strengthen and expand lactation support, initiation, and duration within the community infrastructure.
  • Implement NYS’s Breastfeeding, Chestfeeding, and Lactation Friendly Practice Designation to provide consistent, evidence-based lactation education and management from the prenatal period through infancy.
  • Develop support groups that are inclusive of all breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and human milk feeding individuals to provide free, evidence-based lactation support.

Since 2013, CCHD has assisted in the development and implementation of over 260 Breastfeeding, Chestfeeding and Lactation Friendly policies.
