Communicable Diseases
Communicable diseases are illnesses that spread from person to person through direct contact, through the air, or from contaiminated food, water, or animals.

Timely reporting by physicians is essential for public health agencies at the local, state and federal levels to detect outbreaks, track new infections, prevent further spread, and assess control measures. In some cases, rapid reporting can save lives.
Healthcare providers, facilities, laboratories, and health departments all share responsibility for reporting, follow-up, and control of communicable diseases.
